To compete against Amazon and Apple, Microsoft has partnered with the American company “Barnes & Noble”. From this partnership will be born a new branch, whose name has not yet been defined, which will be controlled by B & N ‘s 82.4%. Microsoft promised to invest 300 million dollars to approximately 17.6% of the shares, worth a total of 1.7 billion dollars.
Initially the two companies will work with an application NOOK, optimized specifically forWindows 8. The strategy Microsoft axis – Barnes & Noble aims to achieve two objectives: to improve the reliability and popularity of Windows-based tablet over its competitors and extendbrand visibility Barnes & Noble in the U.S. market.
In addition to electronic books, in fact, the shop offers magazines, newspapers and scholarly books. The agreement between the two giants is a commercial, but regulated by anagreement on the use of licenses and products covered by copyright. In particular, Barnes & Noble and its new subsidiary will take up the rights to license Microsoft eBook readers and tablet NOOK.
